Princess Kate

I was very excited about the Royal Wedding last week.  I had my DVR set to record from 3am-9am so I could watch every moment.  I also taped the special the night before, and the special 20/20 on Friday night.

As excited as I was, I will also admit that the Royal Wedding got a LOT of media attention.  And today I realized that maybe it received a little TOO much attention.  I picked up the newest People magazine at the store yesterday, and was reading it this morning while Cooper was watching Mickey Mouse Clubhouse.  He walked over to the couch, looked at a picture of Will and Kate, pointed to Kate and said, “Kate Momma, Kate!”

Note to self, no more Good Morning America for Cooper!  🙂

Chula Vista

At the beginning of the school year, the PTO at Carter’s school had a fundraiser.  We sold enough items to win a 1-night stay at Chula Vista.  This is a hotel in Wisconsin Dells that also has an indoor waterpark.  We had made reservations months ago to stay there this weekend.

Tim and I have not had very good luck staying at Chula Vista.  And let me start by saying that this is not Chula Vista’s fault, the hotel is lovely and the staff is very friendly.  We first stayed there on our wedding night.  We actually had our reception there, and then our gift opening in the morning.  Let’s just say that I did not have much to eat all day, didn’t eat much at the reception, and then had certain members from my bridal party bringing me drink after drink…..and it didn’t end well.  I didn’t throw up, but I was pretty drunk by the end of the night.  Tim and the best man had to help me to our room.

Our second stay at Chula Vista was a few years later, when Carter was 1 1/2 years old.  He had not been feeling well the day before.  He had been throwing up and we actually took him to Urgent Care.  But the next day he was back to his normal self, and we figured we were good to go.  We were meeting my family there for a Christmas Party, and ate at a very nice steakhouse.  Then in the middle of the night I started throwing up.  A couple hours later Tim got sick.  We apparently caught whatever Carter had the previous day.  We packed our bags first thing in the morning, and drove 1 1/2 hours home (THE LONGEST CAR RIDE OF MY ENTIRE LIFE!)  I threw up so many times that day, I almost had to go to the hospital for dehydration.

We left our house on Friday for our most recent Chula Vista stay.  We planned on staying with my brother and his wife, who live about 30 minutes from the Dells, on Friday night so we could get to Chula Vista by noon to use the waterpark.  Late Friday night Cooper came down with a fever.  Luckily he was feeling better by the time we got to the hotel on Saturday and Carter didn’t come down with it.

This is what happened to Carter

Carter's injured himself at the waterpark at Chula Vista

I’m not exactly sure what happened.  He came down one of the kid’s slides and told me that his toe hurt.  He must have hit it just right at the bottom of the slide, and his toenail folded over.  Luckily we were a few feet away from the First Aid station.  They put a couple band aids on it, and he went back in the water.  When we got home today, I was the one that got to take the band aids off and clip the toe nail.  He’ll have band aids on for a couple weeks, until his toenail grows out a bit.

Carter was such a little trooper.  He didn’t cry at all.  And when the man at the First Aid station asked how it happened, Carter replied “I hurt my toe on the slide, I wasn’t running.”

Sleepy Heads

This week I’m scheduled to work until 11pm three nights in a row.  I usually work from 7-11pm, and don’t mind the shift, but three nights in a row is a little difficult.  I have trouble getting to sleep when I get home, and often times only get a few hours of sleep.

Last night was no exception, I went to bed a little after midnight and could not fall  asleep.  Then Cooper woke up about 1:20am and would not go to sleep.  I ended up bringing him into bed with me, and he tossed and turned, wiggled and giggled, and would not go to sleep.  Tim finally got up with him and rocked him to sleep.  The last time I glanced at the clock was right before 3am, not a good thing when you need to be up around 7am.

Tim usually gets up around 6am to get ready for work, and wakes Carter anytime between 6:30-7am.  Carter can usually get dressed, go to the bathroom, eat breakfast, and brush his teeth with time to spare when he gets up at 7am.

Well this morning Tim overslept.  I don’t even remember hearing his alarm go off this morning.  I woke up at 7:30 on the dot, thought it was a little odd that it was so bright in our room, looked at the clock and saw it was 7:30, and then rolled over to find Tim fast asleep.  OH CRAP!!!!

I jumped out of bed (surprisingly I wasn’t very tired), went into Carter’s room and started putting on his clothes while he was still sleeping.  Then I took him into the bathroom, he was still half sleeping at this point, and plopped him on the toilet.  Carter wasn’t too thrilled about this, but he made potty.  I quickly brushed his teeth, and got him to put his boots, jacket, and backpack on.  Tim grabbed a cereal bar and a juice box and gave them to Carter and we headed outside to wait for the bus.  We accomplished all of this in under five minutes.

Carter ate his breakfast in the garage while we waited for the bus and we ended up having a few minutes to spare.  He could have put on clean underwear!

Boots

A couple months ago Carter came home from school and told me that his socks were wet.  We had had a few warm days, and most of the snow had melted.  I figured that his boots had gotten a little wet, and that was the cause of his wet socks.  Wet was an understatement.  He took his boots off and I DUMPED water out of them.  I couldn’t believe that he actually wore them home (he had an extra pair of socks in his backpack and he always has shoes in his backpack to wear during school).

Luckily this occurred on a Friday, so I had all weekend to attempt to get his boots dry.  I squeezed them both out on Friday, put paper towels in on Saturday to absorb some of the water, and used my blow dryer on Sunday night to try to get them dry.  On Monday morning they were still pretty damp, so Carter went to school with plastic bags in his boots (he looked silly, but it worked).

That day Cooper and I headed off to Walmart in search of rain boots for Carter.  Figuring that he wouldn’t wear them all that much, I decided to get them a couple sizes big so he could get more use out of them.  We got a pair of Spider man boots, and Carter LOVES LOVES LOVES them.  He loves them so much, that he wears them to school EVERY DAY.  He has to wear them when we run errands, when we go out to eat, he even wanted to wear them when we went on a bike ride last week.

I’ve noticed that none of the other kids in the neighborhood have been wearing boots to school lately, and I asked Carter if he was the only kid in his class that wore boots to school anymore.  He informed me that he was, so I told him that unless it’s raining outside (which it was today), that he would have to wear his shoes to school.  And since he actually wore shoes to swimming lessons yesterday, I reminded him to make sure to put them in his backpack so he’d have them for school today.

Carter looked at me and said, “Mom, you know that if you forget to bring your shoes you have to wear your boots all day.”

“Yes Carter, I know that”, I replied.

And then Carter looked up at me with a big smile and said, “If I forgot my shoes, then I could wear my Spider Man boots all day.  Wouldn’t that be awesome?”

Cooper also enjoys wearing the Spider Man boots when he and Carter are playing Cowboys.

Easter Weekend Up North

We went to Tim’s parents’ house for Easter this year.  The boys always have a blast up there.  My in-laws live up north and have lots of land for them to go exploring.  They get to ride tractors, lawnmowers, and go on wagon rides.  They were outside playing for hours.  Here are a few pictures from our weekend.

Carter giving Cooper a ride in the wagon. It was HARD work, that boy weighs a ton!

Cooper playing in the water with a stick. Apparently it's a lot of fun when you're two years old.

The boys each got two Easter Baskets and had an Easter Egg Hunt. Cooper is in LOVE with his new Mickey!

Carter with his early birthday present from Grams and Grand Dad. Now he has two John Deere bikes. 🙂

Carter wanted to bring Grand Dad's new rug for show and tell, but he'll have to settle on bringing a picture instead.
